1990년대 네덜란드 디자이너들이 모여 내세운 조형으로, droog는 네덜란드어로 마르다라는 뜻이다. 버려진 서랍이나 매듭처럼 익숙한 물건을 그대로 구조로 삼고 마감으로 감추지 않는다. 소박함과 재치를 공통의 유형으로 삼았다는 점에서 같은 시기의 매끈한 산업 디자인과 갈라진다.
