辰巳嘉裕为把作品与面向儿童的「漫画」区分开来而立的名称。以纤细坚硬的描线、浓重的明暗与电影式的分格，处理面向成人的社会性与暴力。此后漫画所能承担的题材范围，由此被决定性地拓宽。
