천을 꿰매고 묶고 판으로 눌러 조인 뒤에 염색해, 압력이 걸린 부분만 희게 남기는 기법. 완성은 장인의 손 힘과 천의 움직임에 맡겨지고, 같은 형에서도 똑같은 무늬는 두 번 나오지 않는다.
