짜기 전의 실을 묶어 나누어 염색하고, 다 짰을 때 무늬가 드러나도록 계산하는 기법. 실의 미세한 어긋남이 윤곽을 번지게 하고 그 흔들림이 이카트의 지문이 된다. 설계와 우연이 같은 공정에 함께 있다.
