칠보 공예의 칸막이에서 이름을 딴 화법. 두꺼운 윤곽선이 평평한 색면을 둘러싼다. 우키요에 판화와 스테인드글라스의 보는 방식을 유화로 들여와, 음영으로 만든 양감을 버리고 기억에서 꺼낸 색을 얹었다. 포스터의 평면성을 준비한 기법이다.
