Movimiento que salió al aire libre y captó la luz misma con pinceladas rápidas. Abandonó la línea de contorno, puso las sombras en colores complementarios en lugar de negro y pintó el mismo motivo de distinta manera según la hora. Casi toda la vanguardia posterior se define por su adhesión o su rechazo a este movimiento.
