고전 건축에서 장식만을 깎아내고 비례와 축선, 기둥의 율동만 남긴 관청과 기념 건축의 양식. 장식이 없는데도 고전으로 읽힌다는 점이 권위를 말하는 저비용의 수단이 되었다. 미니멀과 위압이 함께 사는 예로서 중요하다.

- Bilateral symmetry with the entrance on the axis, a tall base, an unbroken wall and a heavy uninterrupted cornice line.

- Large ashlar limestone or granite, honed flat, with joints fine enough that the wall reads as one continuous surface.

- Reaching for it because it looks austere and expensive: the symmetry and the blank wall make a claim of authority whether or not you intended one.
