Ein Stil der Verwaltungs- und Denkmalarchitektur, der der klassischen Baukunst allein den Schmuck abnimmt und Proportion, Achse und Rhythmus der Stützen übrig lässt. Dass ein Bau ohne Ornament dennoch als klassisch lesbar bleibt, wurde zum kostengünstigen Mittel, Autorität zu sprechen. Wichtig als Fall, in dem Minimalismus und Einschüchterung zusammenwohnen.

- Bilateral symmetry with the entrance on the axis, a tall base, an unbroken wall and a heavy uninterrupted cornice line.

- Large ashlar limestone or granite, honed flat, with joints fine enough that the wall reads as one continuous surface.

- Reaching for it because it looks austere and expensive: the symmetry and the blank wall make a claim of authority whether or not you intended one.
