다도의 미의식에서 태어난 가볍고 격식 없는 주택 양식. 가는 기둥, 껍질을 남긴 목재, 흙벽, 쇼지를 통과한 빛이 재료의 본성과 여백을 방의 품질로 만든다. 가쓰라는 모더니즘의 순례지가 되었다.
