Concrete Poetry vs Kinetic Typography
具体詩/コンクリート・ポエトリー / キネティック・タイポグラフィ
Concrete Poetry comes from Experimental Typography and Kinetic Typography from タイポグラフィ. One is layout and the other technique. They are reached for with some of the same intent, which is where they get confused.
Concrete Poetry
Treats the placement, repetition, blank space and sound of words as the poem itself, not only what they mean.
Kinetic Typography
Kinetic typography uses changes in position, speed, scale, form and timing to build tone of voice, emotion and attention along a timeline. Type is not a caption layer; its movement carries meaning.

| Kind | Layout | Technique |
| Cues | Repeated words / Shapes made of letters / Large blanks / Dismantled reading order | Speed and size changing with vocal emphasis / Entrances and exits offset by word or character / Travel, rotation or deformation matching a word's meaning / Temporal hierarchy built from holds and reading order |
| Best used for | Print pieces where a few words carry the reading speed and the pauses · Exhibitions and wall works that take language itself as the subject | Joining tone of voice and moving type in titles, advertising and lyric films · Adding emotion and emphasis to short explanations or conversations without sound |
| Type | One face at one size, emphasis from position and repetition only | Break copy into words and syllables, mapping speed, holds and scale changes to what each unit says. |
| Composition | Place words on a grid so reading can start from any direction | Limit how much is read at once and use the next word's position to preview eye direction. |
| Material | White paper and one black ink, quality carried by register and margin | Move only the necessary axes among position, rotation, scale, tracking, weight and opacity, testing legibility at rest. |
| Caution | When making a shape comes first, the meaning of the words stops answering their position, and the piece is only letters poured into a picture. | When every letter always bounces, motion becomes noise. Keep passages still whenever removing motion would not change meaning. |
