Italo Disco Cover Art
イタロ・ディスコのジャケット / late 1970s–late 1980s / Style / Music Graphics
The sleeve system through which Italian-produced dance music of the late 1970s and 1980s compressed fantasies of space, speed, night and elsewhere into the square record cover. Smooth airbrushed bodies and machines, chrome, lightning, dark cosmic color and italic titles turned studio-made artificiality into a futuristic stage. Unlike later Synthwave, it belongs to the period's mixture of print, photography and hand-rendered illustration.

Dictionary entry
- Type
- Set the title once in a broad italic or chrome dimensional face, moving the artist name to a small edge position.
- Composition
- Center one figure or machine in the square, converge speed lines and horizon on its vanishing point, and keep the remaining field dark.
- Material
- Layer seamless airbrush gradients, cut photography, metallic reflections and two to four neon print colors.
- Caution
- A neon grid alone turns it into Synthwave. When using scripts, dress or bodies from another culture, verify the source, translation and original circulation context.
