Italo Disco Cover Art comes from Music Graphics and Synthwave from Digital Retro. They are reached for with some of the same intent, which is where they get confused.
Italo Disco Cover Art
The sleeve system through which Italian-produced dance music of the late 1970s and 1980s compressed fantasies of space, speed, night and elsewhere into the square record cover. Smooth airbrushed bodies and machines, chrome, lightning, dark cosmic color and italic titles turned studio-made artificiality into a futuristic stage. Unlike later Synthwave, it belongs to the period's mixture of print, photography and hand-rendered illustration.
