Compose styles

Rather than blending styles toward a middle, this gives them roles. The first one carries the structure, the next comes in as the accent, and anything after that shows up in a single detail. Where they fight each other, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Corporate Grunge: Lock the product and required information in rectangles; collide cropped photos and drawn marks around them
Type
Set in Corporate Grunge's manner (Distress display type only, then restore body copy to one face, alignment, and line length), and let Frasurbane's lettering (Use no more than two serif faces, switching weight and italic, with one long underline as structure) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Corporate Grunge's material (Use crushed photocopy texture, worn paper, coarse halftones, and limited-color overprint locally); bring in exactly one thing from Frasurbane (Combine ecru paper, sepia imagery, hairline rules, and one muted green or red accent).
Colour
Build on #E5E0D5, #1B1A18, #C8432F and admit one accent from #E6DDCA, #6F665B, #6E735A.

Where they fight

  • Corporate Grunge and Frasurbane share no intent, so the contrast has to become the subject rather than something to smooth over.

Caution

  • Corporate Grunge When everything becomes unreadable, it is simply grunge. Corporate Grunge depends on destruction and legibility remaining visible on the same surface.
  • Frasurbane Classical plates alone make generic vintage editorial. Retain a slight grunge-derived displacement and a restrained suburban polish.

Image prompt

Produce four original images that take their structure from Corporate Grunge (style, late 1980s–mid-1990s) and their accent from Frasurbane (style, late 1980s–mid-1990s). ## What to make Make the kind of thing Corporate Grunge exists for: youth, sports, and music advertising that needs resistance without sacrificing price or feature information, or editorial work about the commercialization of 1990s underground culture. Choose one subject and hold it across all four. ## Structure comes from Corporate Grunge - Distressed or overprinted display headlines - Tilted subheads alongside orderly body copy - Rough monochrome photography with one red or yellow overprint - Torn edges, hand marks, and copier noise used selectively Composition: Lock the product and required information in rectangles; collide cropped photos and drawn marks around them. Type and lettering: Distress display type only, then restore body copy to one face, alignment, and line length. ## Accent comes from Frasurbane, used sparingly - Mixed-weight and italic serif type with long underlines - Classical sculpture, armillary spheres, botanical plates, and old machinery - Sepia or monochrome soft-focus product photography - Textured paper and wide whitespace with small misalignments Let one material quality come from it: Combine ecru paper, sepia imagery, hairline rules, and one muted green or red accent. ## Colour and feeling Build the ground on #E5E0D5, carry the structure in #C8432F and #1B1A18, and let a single accent come from #6E735A. These are read off real works, so a direction rather than a fixed palette. Feeling to carry: rebellion, exhilaration, trust, luxury, calm, nostalgia. ## Where they fight - Corporate Grunge and Frasurbane share no intent, so the contrast has to become the subject rather than something to smooth over. ## What goes wrong - Corporate Grunge: When everything becomes unreadable, it is simply grunge. Corporate Grunge depends on destruction and legibility remaining visible on the same surface. - Frasurbane: Classical plates alone make generic vintage editorial. Retain a slight grunge-derived displacement and a restrained suburban polish. ## Across the four Keep the roles fixed in all four. Vary the framing, the scale and the arrangement so the set shows what this pairing can do rather than four versions of one picture. ## Constraints - Do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. - Do not reproduce the composition of an existing work. - Produce original compositions in the general period languages described above.

  • Corporate Grunge late 1980s–mid-1990s / Style / Contemporary Branding

A controlled transfer of distressed type, rupture, and layering from music publishing into corporate advertising and product catalogues. Illegibility is not the goal; traces of rebellion sit around otherwise ordered product information.

  • Frasurbane late 1980s–mid-1990s / Style / Publishing and Editing

An early-1990s style that quiets grunge disruption for affluent, suburbanized adult publishing and advertising. Serif type, classical illustrations, and soft-focus photography are slightly displaced by underlines and overlap to stage an urbane life.
