大萧条时期的美国，拒斥欧洲前卫、以写实手法描绘中西部农村与劳作的运动。起伏的丘陵、样式化的人物与明快的叙事性，经由壁画、杂志与邮票成为国民性的图像。它是把地域性变成样式的典型例子。
