Zardozi
ザルドージ刺繍 / living tradition / court textiles of the 18th–19th centuries / Technique / Textile Traditions
Embroidery developed in South Asian courtly and ceremonial textiles, securing metal-wrapped threads and other metallic elements to cloth. Relief and reflection strengthen the ornament's outline. Modern imitation metal belongs in its material history; gold-coloured printing is a different process.

Dictionary entry
- Type
- Give explanatory text a quiet surface separate from dense metalwork.
- Composition
- Plan the brightest border and main motif first, leaving cloth visible to balance their weight.
- Material
- Test metal colour, weight, flexibility and attachment under different light sources.
- Caution
- Gold colour alone does not establish zardozi. Distinguish zari weaving, metal-thread embroidery and beadwork, and identify precious metal versus imitation materials.
