Rights and image policy
This page states IndexStyle’s operating rules for text, source material, names and generated images. It is a publication policy, not legal advice or a claim about every reuse in every jurisdiction.
Original text and data
Text and structured data written by IndexStyle are available under CC BY 4.0. Credit IndexStyle and keep the entry’s source URL when reusing a record. Source code is excluded unless a separate software license says otherwise.
Reference works
A reference gallery contains real works or official product documents and links each image to its page of record. Those images, quoted works, third-party text and trademarks are not covered by IndexStyle’s CC BY license. Commons files are checked against official metadata; required file creators are added to credits, and files carrying licence, dispute or territorial warnings are hidden while reviewed. A free licence for a photograph does not automatically license a separately protected artwork, design, building, product or person depicted in it. Quotation
When an image is shown as quotation under Article 32 of the Japanese Copyright Act, it is kept subordinate to the criticism or explanation, left unmodified apart from resolution reduction or file-format normalization, credited and linked. The underlying work is assessed separately from the file licence; uncertain images are hidden while reviewed. The 640px internal cap is not a statutory safe harbor, and automated checks cannot decide quotation fairness. Each locally hosted quotation has an item-level review record. The presence of an image here is not permission to reuse it elsewhere.
AI interpretations
One or more generated images may serve as original browsing aids when no lawful, legible or sufficiently representative reference-work image can be displayed. They are labelled as AI interpretations and kept out of the reference gallery and source evidence. An existing real-work reference remains evidence even when an interpretation is added for legibility. Prompts require a fictional composition and prohibit logos, trademarks, copied interface screens, copyrighted characters, known people, artist-name imitation, signatures and watermarks. Current records publish exact prompts, targeted edit instructions and exported-file hashes; older assets honestly identify batch-level or file-only documentation instead of reconstructing missing facts. Generation does not guarantee non-infringement, exclusivity or copyrightability, and the images must not be presented as official or endorsed.
Names and trademarks
Product, platform and style names identify the subject of commentary and comparison. Rights remain with their owners; IndexStyle does not imply sponsorship, certification or endorsement. Brand marks are not needed for an entry to pass the editorial standard.
Corrections and takedown
For a credit correction, rights concern or removal request, email hello@indexstyle.org with the page URL, the material concerned, your relationship to it and the requested action. We aim to acknowledge a complete request within two business days and may hide the item while checking it. Do not send identity documents or sensitive information unless we later explain why proportionate verification is necessary.
