Compose two styles
Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.

- Follow Skeuomorphism: Adopt the structure of the real tool
- Type
- Set in Skeuomorphism's manner (A humanist face suited to the purpose), and let Trompe-l'œil's lettering (Treat letters as painted objects too, or keep them outside the illusion) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
- Material
- Ground in Skeuomorphism's material (Precision texture only where it serves function); bring in exactly one thing from Trompe-l'œil (Wood, paper, metal, wear, light from one direction).
- Colour
- Build on #d6b47b, #7a4d2c, #39342e and admit one accent from #4b3828, #b69261, #d8c8a9.
Where they fight
- Skeuomorphism and Trompe-l'œil share no intent, so the contrast has to become the subject rather than something to smooth over.
Caution
- Skeuomorphism Ornament must not bury the interaction. Expect generations who don't share the metaphor.
- Trompe-l'œil Not mere realism. Design the viewpoint, distance and boundary that make the viewer misread.
