Compose two styles
Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.
How to divide the work
- Composition
- Follow MTV Graphics: Let the shape overflow the frame so it reads as a crop
- Type
- Set in MTV Graphics's manner (Fix only the outline of the mark and redraw the type inside every time), and let Scanimate's lettering (Heavy single letters lit from inside their own outline) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
- Material
- Ground in MTV Graphics's material (Fill the outline with graffiti, photography and texture); bring in exactly one thing from Scanimate (Scanlines and rainbow bleed, with color fringing left on the edges).
- Colour
- Build on #e9e6dd, #67635d, #171615 and admit one accent from #e9e6dd, #67635d, #171615.
Where they fight
- Both belong to Broadcast Design, so the difference is small. Push the roles further apart than feels comfortable.
Caution
- MTV Graphics Using variability as an excuse to change the outline as well, so nothing stays fixed and the mark never accumulates as a sign.
- Scanimate Layering glow and scanlines on top while the undulation itself still moves with the smooth interpolation of today's tools.
