Compose two styles
Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.
How to divide the work
- Composition
- Follow Meisen Kimono: Scale the repeat larger than the body and allow the seams to break it
- Type
- Set in Meisen Kimono's manner (Let pattern speak instead of letters, the name kept on a small tag), and let Rinpa's lettering (Treat letters as part of the picture and scatter them across the void) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
- Material
- Ground in Meisen Kimono's material (Chemical dyes on a stencil printed warp, keeping the blurred kasuri edge); bring in exactly one thing from Rinpa (Foil gold and silver, opaque mineral color, pooled tarashikomi bleeds).
- Colour
