Compose styles

Rather than blending styles toward a middle, this gives them roles. The first one carries the structure, the next comes in as the accent, and anything after that shows up in a single detail. Where they fight each other, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Firefox Photon: Keep browser chrome shallow and favor a single reading column in content and settings surfaces
Type
Set in Firefox Photon's manner (Use a platform-friendly sans and brief labels; do not explain every icon twice with text), and let Firefox Proton's lettering (Reduce labels to short verbs and nouns; remove redundant icons so wording carries the hierarchy) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Firefox Photon's material (Start from neutral surfaces and reserve blue, purple and orange for selection, focus and brand moments); bring in exactly one thing from Firefox Proton (Build on neutral light surfaces and open spacing; reserve purple and blue for focus and selection and shadows for the floating tab).
Colour
Build on #FFFFFF, #0060DF, #20123A and admit one accent from #FBFBFE, #9059FF, #2B2A33.

Where they fight

  • Firefox Photon and Firefox Proton both belong to Platform Screen Languages, so the difference is small. Push the roles further apart than feels comfortable.

Caution

  • Firefox Photon A Firefox gradient alone is not Photon. Match the density that leaves content dominant and the immediacy of every control state.
  • Firefox Proton More rounding and whitespace alone only lowers information density. Make every removed icon legible through wording and order.

Image prompt

Produce four original images that take their structure from Firefox Photon (style, 2017–2021 / legacy) and their accent from Firefox Proton (style, 2021–2026). ## What to make Make the kind of thing Firefox Photon exists for: unifying browser chrome, settings, add-ons and mobile, or tools that must show speed and state without overpowering web content. Choose one subject and hold it across all four. ## Structure comes from Firefox Photon - Compact browser chrome and squared-off tabs - Vivid blue, purple and orange on white or deep navy - Thin simplified line icons - Brief transitions and unmistakable selection or focus Composition: Keep browser chrome shallow and favor a single reading column in content and settings surfaces. Type and lettering: Use a platform-friendly sans and brief labels; do not explain every icon twice with text. ## Accent comes from Firefox Proton, used sparingly - A rounded active tab floating above the toolbar - Text-led menus with fewer redundant icons - Generous spacing and light linear iconography - Neutral browser chrome with purple and blue selection states Let one material quality come from it: Build on neutral light surfaces and open spacing; reserve purple and blue for focus and selection and shadows for the floating tab. ## Colour and feeling Build the ground on #FFFFFF, carry the structure in #0060DF and #20123A, and let a single accent come from #9059FF. These are read off real works, so a direction rather than a fixed palette. Feeling to carry: technique, futurity, exhilaration, calm, intimacy. ## Where they fight - Firefox Photon and Firefox Proton both belong to Platform Screen Languages, so the difference is small. Push the roles further apart than feels comfortable. ## What goes wrong - Firefox Photon: A Firefox gradient alone is not Photon. Match the density that leaves content dominant and the immediacy of every control state. - Firefox Proton: More rounding and whitespace alone only lowers information density. Make every removed icon legible through wording and order. ## Across the four Keep the roles fixed in all four. Vary the framing, the scale and the arrangement so the set shows what this pairing can do rather than four versions of one picture. ## Constraints - Do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. - Do not reproduce the composition of an existing work. - Produce original compositions in the general period languages described above.
