Compose two styles

Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Art Nouveau: Vertical formats, frame compositions, a central figure
Type
Set in Art Nouveau's manner (Curvilinear serifs or hand lettering), and let Beggarstaff Style's lettering (Cut the letters from paper too, treating them as shapes not type) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Art Nouveau's material (Dusty greens and gold, line work, paper texture); bring in exactly one thing from Beggarstaff Style (Scissors on colored paper, shifting pieces until the shape count drops).
Colour
Build on #e9ddbe, #829270, #6f3f35 and admit one accent from #e9e6dd, #67635d, #171615.

Where they fight

These two are already listed as related, so the join should come easily.

Caution

  • Art Nouveau Stock vine ornaments stay superficial. Carry the line through the whole composition.
  • Beggarstaff Style Adding outlines back to explain the shape kills the tension the omission created and leaves an ordinary illustration that merely uses few colors.

Image prompt

An original image that takes its structure from Art Nouveau (Style, 1890s–1910s) and its accent from Beggarstaff Style (Style, 1894–1899). Structural cues: Botanical curves; Ornamental frames; Female figures; Muted natural colors. Accent cues, used sparingly: Flat cut-paper shapes; Omitted contours; Large fields of few colors; Boldness that looked unfinished. Composition: Vertical formats, frame compositions, a central figure. Type and lettering: Curvilinear serifs or hand lettering. Let one material quality come from the second style: Scissors on colored paper, shifting pieces until the shape count drops. Mood: Luxury, Intimacy, Rebellion, Calm. Color: build on #e9ddbe, #829270, #6f3f35 with a single accent drawn from #e9e6dd, #67635d, #171615. Constraints: do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. Produce an original composition in the general period languages described above.
