Latin American Modernism vs Tropical Modernism

ラテンアメリカ近代建築 / トロピカル・モダニズム

Both sit in Modern Architecture, so the question is not what they belong to but how they behave. Both are read here as style. They are reached for with some of the same intent, which is where they get confused.

Latin American Modernism

Latin American modern architecture rewrote the International Style in local color, light and feeling. Barragán's colored walls and water, and Niemeyer's curves, proved that modern building too could carry the emotion of a place.

Tropical Modernism

Adapts modern architecture to hot, humid climates through canopies, louvers, ventilation and sun control.

Look past a tropical look to colonial rule, nation building after independence and local architects.
