Dreamcore vs Liminal Space
ドリームコア / リミナル・スペース
Both sit in Internet Aesthetics, so the question is not what they belong to but how they behave. Both are read here as aesthetic. They are reached for with some of the same intent, which is where they get confused.
Dreamcore
Edits nostalgic spaces by the logic of dreams, producing images like memories in which comfort and wrongness sit together.
Liminal Space
Photographs transitional spaces empty when people ought to be in them, drawing out déjà vu, loneliness and the sense that time has stopped.

| Cues | Hazy suburbs / Clouds and sky / Cryptic captions / Eyes and doors | Empty corridors / Fluorescent light / Dated interiors / Public space after midnight |
| Best used for | Building visuals for music or short films about memory and childhood · Photo projects that show a real place as a slightly displaced memory | Photographing empty facilities at night to show that time has stopped · Choosing settings for work about waiting and passing through |
| Type | One short caption in a corner, addressed to no one | Keep the existing wayfinding signs and add no new lettering |
| Composition | Put the vanishing point deep and let empty space keep going | Shoot corridors head on in one point perspective with nobody present |
| Material | Faded color, soft bloom, clouds and sky under evening light | Greenish fluorescent white, dated flooring, damp reflections, weak shadows |
| Caution | Piling on uncanny elements turns the picture into horror and breaks the balance where comfort and wrongness are supposed to stand together. | The more unusual the building, the less it touches memory, because the sense of having been here only arrives in ordinary places everyone has passed through. |
