Art Nouveau vs Pre-Raphaelite

アール・ヌーヴォー / ラファエル前派

Art Nouveau comes from Historical Styles and Pre-Raphaelite from Fin de Siècle Art. Both are read here as style. They are reached for with some of the same intent, which is where they get confused.

Art Nouveau

Joins letters, figures and ornament into one flowing, plant-like line.

Pre-Raphaelite

An English brotherhood that discarded the formulas established after Raphael and tried to return to the clarity of the early Renaissance. Transparent paint over a white ground made the color uncannily sharp, and because every detail is worked to the same degree, the eye has nowhere to rest.
