Compose two styles

Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Post-Modernism: Show the grid, then deviate from part of it
Type
Set in Post-Modernism's manner (Mix two or three faces from different eras), and let Postmodern Architecture's lettering (Set headings in serif capitals and treat them as ornament with their frames.) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Post-Modernism's material (Quoted images, patterns, vivid color; meaningful collisions); bring in exactly one thing from Postmodern Architecture (Tinted stucco, colored stone, metal trim switching color plane by plane.).
Colour
Build on #f2dbb6, #ee5b78, #2f61a7 and admit one accent from #e7d7c8, #b45d77, #526489.

Where they fight

These two are already listed as related, so the join should come easily.

Caution

  • Post-Modernism Random is not plural. Mix only what you can justify aloud.
  • Postmodern Architecture Pasting on pediments and pilasters without knowing what they quote loses the irony and leaves a dated theme park facade, so read what in modernism is criticized and who the building addresses.

Image prompt

An original image that takes its structure from Post-Modernism (Style, 1970s–1990s) and its accent from Postmodern Architecture (Style, 1960s–1990s). Structural cues: Mixed styles; Irony; Ornament reclaimed; Unexpected color. Accent cues, used sparingly: Historical quotation; Ornament returned; Strong color; Double meanings. Composition: Show the grid, then deviate from part of it. Type and lettering: Mix two or three faces from different eras. Let one material quality come from the second style: Tinted stucco, colored stone, metal trim switching color plane by plane.. Mood: Play, Rebellion, Exhilaration. Color: build on #f2dbb6, #ee5b78, #2f61a7 with a single accent drawn from #e7d7c8, #b45d77, #526489. Constraints: do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. Produce an original composition in the general period languages described above.
