Compose two styles

Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Liminal Space: Shoot corridors head on in one point perspective with nobody present
Type
Set in Liminal Space's manner (Keep the existing wayfinding signs and add no new lettering), and let Poolcore's lettering (Keep only depth markings and warning numbers, add no other text) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Liminal Space's material (Greenish fluorescent white, dated flooring, damp reflections, weak shadows); bring in exactly one thing from Poolcore (White square tile, chlorine blue, ceiling light, ripples on the surface).
Colour
Build on #d1c58a, #718074, #292a28 and admit one accent from #d8f3f4, #4da9b6, #216179.

Where they fight

  • Both belong to Internet Aesthetics, so the difference is small. Push the roles further apart than feels comfortable.

Caution

  • Liminal Space The more unusual the building, the less it touches memory, because the sense of having been here only arrives in ordinary places everyone has passed through.
  • Poolcore Photographing the water for beauty alone produces a resort advertisement and loses the discomfort that comes from nobody being there.

Image prompt

An original image that takes its structure from Liminal Space (Aesthetic, late-2010s–) and its accent from Poolcore (Aesthetic, 2010s–). Structural cues: Empty corridors; Fluorescent light; Dated interiors; Public space after midnight. Accent cues, used sparingly: Blue water; White tile; Empty space; Light on water. Composition: Shoot corridors head on in one point perspective with nobody present. Type and lettering: Keep the existing wayfinding signs and add no new lettering. Let one material quality come from the second style: White square tile, chlorine blue, ceiling light, ripples on the surface. Mood: Calm, Nostalgia, Rebellion, Futurism. Color: build on #d1c58a, #718074, #292a28 with a single accent drawn from #d8f3f4, #4da9b6, #216179. Constraints: do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. Produce an original composition in the general period languages described above.
