Compose two styles

Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Hippie Style: Let lengths and patterns disagree and build the outline by layering
Type
Set in Hippie Style's manner (Letters embroidered or painted by hand, never a tidy typeface), and let Solarpunk's lettering (A humane sans with handwritten notes) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Hippie Style's material (Secondhand denim, indigo and plant dyes, embroidery thread, patches); bring in exactly one thing from Solarpunk (Leaf green, solar yellow, wood, glass, copper).
Colour
Build on #eae6de, #6b655c, #1a1815 and admit one accent from #e7e2b9, #6fa14f, #d78c38.

Where they fight

These two are already listed as related, so the join should come easily.

Caution

  • Hippie Style Layering folk dress as pattern without learning what it means erases where it came from and invites the charge of appropriation.
  • Solarpunk Don't just add plants. Imagine the systems of resources, labor and community.

Image prompt

An original image that takes its structure from Hippie Style (Style, 1960s–1970s) and its accent from Solarpunk (Aesthetic, 2000s–). Structural cues: Handwork and embroidery; Mixed folk dress; Customized denim; Long hair, back to nature. Accent cues, used sparingly: Green and sunlight; Local handwork; Renewable technology; Community. Composition: Let lengths and patterns disagree and build the outline by layering. Type and lettering: Letters embroidered or painted by hand, never a tidy typeface. Let one material quality come from the second style: Leaf green, solar yellow, wood, glass, copper. Mood: Rebellion, Intimacy, Play, Futurism, Exhilaration. Color: build on #eae6de, #6b655c, #1a1815 with a single accent drawn from #e7e2b9, #6fa14f, #d78c38. Constraints: do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. Produce an original composition in the general period languages described above.
