Compose two styles

Rather than blending two styles into a middle, this assigns them roles: one carries the structure, the other appears as an accent. Where the two fight, it says so before you start.

How to divide the work

Composition
Follow Art Nouveau: Vertical formats, frame compositions, a central figure
Type
Set in Art Nouveau's manner (Curvilinear serifs or hand lettering), and let Stained Glass's lettering (Concise letters that hold against the contours) appear only where you want the eye to catch.
Material
Ground in Art Nouveau's material (Dusty greens and gold, line work, paper texture); bring in exactly one thing from Stained Glass (Deep red, blue, gold, transmitted light, black joints).
Colour
Build on #e9ddbe, #829270, #6f3f35 and admit one accent from #173d74, #a32e35, #d0a744.

Where they fight

These two are already listed as related, so the join should come easily.

Caution

  • Art Nouveau Stock vine ornaments stay superficial. Carry the line through the whole composition.
  • Stained Glass Not just translucent gradients. Design the structural lines that carry the color fields.

Image prompt

An original image that takes its structure from Art Nouveau (Style, 1890s–1910s) and its accent from Stained Glass (Technique, medieval–present). Structural cues: Botanical curves; Ornamental frames; Female figures; Muted natural colors. Accent cues, used sparingly: Lead contours; Transmitted color; Geometric division; Jewel tones. Composition: Vertical formats, frame compositions, a central figure. Type and lettering: Curvilinear serifs or hand lettering. Let one material quality come from the second style: Deep red, blue, gold, transmitted light, black joints. Mood: Luxury, Intimacy, Exhilaration, Calm. Color: build on #e9ddbe, #829270, #6f3f35 with a single accent drawn from #173d74, #a32e35, #d0a744. Constraints: do not imitate, reference or name any specific artist, studio, brand, character or copyrighted work. Produce an original composition in the general period languages described above.
