  1. Stippling 16th century– / Técnica

Stippling builds light, volume and surface through the density and size of tiny dots; tone rises from sparse to dense without filling contours with lines.

  2. Scratchboard 19th century– / Técnica

Scratchboard removes black ink from a white clay-coated board, drawing light and contour out of darkness; blade width, crossing and retained black create fur, metal and nocturnal contrast.
